This project defined the term landscape renovation! The house sits within the critical dune area along Lake Michigan. The critical dune is much regulated with regards to building and landscaping. The previous owners had erected a steel staircase to access the house. The new owners desired their walkways and steps to be made of stone.
Stone steps cannot be used in critical dune areas because they can obstruct the dunes natural movement. Our solution was to build a steel frame ware for the steps and cover it with stone. A large patio and hot tub were added on the lakeside.
A man-made stream under a bridge produces a beautiful sound as you walk from the garage/parking area to the stone staircase accessing the house. Extensive perennial gardens blend the home & stonework into the natural surroundings.
